Hello, I’m Namuun (Luna) Byambadorj. Born in Mongolia and now based in the U.S., my journey to a legal career was not planned but propelled by a deep-seated passion to challenge the injustices faced by those most vulnerable. When I first considered law school, I was met with discouragement at every turn—from memes to well-meaning advice suggesting that the path was too daunting. Yet, what I found was profoundly different. As a recent graduate from the University of Maryland School of Law, I eagerly await my bar exam results while working at an immigration law firm. Here, I advocate for asylum seekers and children eligible for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). My educational journey also led me to earn a certificate in cybersecurity law, and I’ve cultivated significant expertise working at a business/commercial litigation law firm. My experiences, especially in the immigration clinic during the crisis in Afghanistan, have reinforced my commitment to this vital work. There were moments I felt like giving up, weighed down by discouragement and self-doubt. To this day, I am still amazed at where I’ve ended up: standing here with my degree, advocating for clients who depend on me. I’ve learned that our paths are littered with challenges—moments of sadness and the temptation to surrender to negative feelings. But trust me, these moments pass if you persist and keep picking yourself up. I To those feeling deterred by the perceived barriers of a legal career, let my story be a testament to what’s possible. From barely speaking English at the start of my college journey to advocating in U.S. courtrooms, I am living proof that with determination and heart, you can surpass even your own expectations. Embrace the challenge—your unique perspective is invaluable, and your contributions are needed more than ever. Remember, you are often much closer to success than you think. @namuka_xo
