Section 3 of Madras District Police Act, 1865

Jurisdiction of Officers appointed under Regulation XI. 1816.—Nothing contained in this Act shall affect the powers of appointment given to Magistrates by Section XL of Regulation XI. 1816 of the Madras Code or the jurisdiction or functions of Officers appointed under such powers, save only that no Officer so appointed shall be competent to exercise any of the functions or duties of Executive Police Officers.
